The Institutional Delegation of the CSIC in the Valencian Community, through the Institute of Aquaculture Torre de la Sal (IATS-CSIC), has participated in a study published in the journal Nature that warns of the extinction risk for almost half of the reef-building coral species.

The research, led by D.O. Obura and with collaboration from IATS-CSIC scientist Diego Kersting, highlights the impact of climate change on these vital marine organisms for ocean ecosystems.
The study, titled 'Nearly half of reef-building corals face elevated relative risk of extinction', analyzes the threats faced by reef-building corals, emphasizing rising sea temperatures and other climate change-related factors as the primary causes of this elevated risk.
Publication in a prestigious journal like Nature underscores the significance of this research for the international scientific community and for informing policy decisions aimed at ocean conservation.
