The Councillor for Finance, Juan Carlos Redondo, presented today the new digital tax management and municipal collection tool, known as TAO 2.0. At the press conference, the councillor was accompanied by the Director of the Office of Economic Planning and Projection, Carmen Vilanova, and the Director of Local Tax Administration, Vicent Badenes.
The implementation of this new tool, awarded to the company T-Systems - ITC Ibérica, has a cost of over 1.7 million euros and is supported by 60% FEDER European funding. This project is part of Castellón's Integrated Action Plan, which includes other initiatives such as the reform of the Central Market and the rehabilitation of La Pèrgola.
Redondo highlighted the commitment of the municipal Government team, led by Mayor Begoña Carrasco, towards a closer, more useful, transparent, and efficient administration. The main objective is to facilitate a more agile and accessible relationship between the City Council and citizens, reducing bureaucracy.
This change is part of a comprehensive modernization process for the tax management and collection area. The new tool, subsidized with European funds, will improve the citizen-administration relationship, automate manual processes, and allow staff to focus on higher value-added tasks and direct attention.
The implementation will be carried out progressively over the next two years. The councillor emphasized the tool's security, as it manages economic and tax information for thousands of citizens, offering a technological leap for 2026.
Carmen Vilanova recalled that Europe finances digital infrastructures like this one, within an Integrated Action Plan for Sustainable Urban Development, emphasizing the modernization and digital transformation of administrations, thereby improving equity in tax management.
Vicent Badenes explained that the new software will manage 122 different municipal revenues and that the current program, TAO 1.0, implemented in 2001, has become obsolete. TAO 2.0 will offer more possibilities through the Electronic Office, cloud management, cost reduction, and better regulatory compliance.
The current tool contains over 7.3 million active receipts and settlements, and in 2025, more than 680,000 receipts totaling 118 million euros were included for collection.
