The concert, part of the program organized by the City Council, took place precisely today, September 8th, the date marking 775 years since the signing of the Privilegi del Trasllat that originated the current Castelló. The event was attended by the Mayoress of Castelló, Begoña Carrasco, accompanied by the Councilor for Festivities, Noelia Selma, council members, the president of the Festivities board, and the Queens of the Festivities with their ladies.
Mayoress Begoña Carrasco highlighted the significance of the celebration: “There is no better way to celebrate such a special date for all Castellón residents than by listening to our Municipal Band perform works that mean so much to us. It is undoubtedly moving to hear pieces in the heart of the Plaza Mayor that speak of Castelló, our roots, our traditions, and our identity.” She added, “Today is one of those days that are marked in the history of a city. We celebrate 775 years since that September 8, 1251, and we do so by sharing culture, music, and Castellón sentiment in the heart of our city.”
Under the direction of maestro José Vicente Ramón Segarra, the Municipal Band presented a program specially selected for the occasion. The repertoire included pieces such as ‘Cavallers de Navarra’ by Ignacio Sánchez; ‘Artal d’Alagó’, a symphonic poem by Miguel Villar; ‘L’ambaixador cristià’ by Rafael Mullor; and ‘Siluetes’, musical impressions by Manuel Palau. One of the most poignant moments was the performance of ‘Castelló’, a symphonic suite by Bernardo Adam Ferrero, comprising Introduction and Dance, Bolero de Castelló, Salve a la Mare de Déu del Lledó, and Jota de Castelló, with the collaboration of the Castelló Dance School.
The concert concluded with the pasodoble ‘Rotllo i canya’ by José García, alongside Els de la Fileta, and featured narration by Pablo Castell. The Mayoress praised the Municipal Band as “one of Castelló’s great cultural ambassadors” and thanked all the musicians and participants for their involvement in this historic concert, concluding, “We reach 775 years looking with pride at our past, enjoying our present, and facing Castelló’s future with enthusiasm. And doing so with our music as the protagonist makes this celebration even more special.”
