The Castellón City Council has activated an extraordinary mosquito control plan following recent rains, reinforcing prevention in areas prone to water accumulation such as La Marjalería and La Pineda park.

The Castellón City Council has launched an extraordinary mosquito control plan as a consequence of the rains recorded in recent days. The objective is to strengthen prevention efforts and act especially in those points where water may have accumulated, to avoid the proliferation of these insects.
The plan includes additional actions to the usual treatments, paying special attention to drains, wetlands, and other areas susceptible to favoring mosquito reproduction. Work is being carried out as a priority in areas where rainfall may have generated water accumulations, with particular emphasis on La Marjalería and La Pineda park, as well as other parts of the municipality.
The Councilor for Public Health, Luciano Ferrer, explained that "the rains make it necessary to reinforce surveillance and act quickly in those points where water may accumulate, because it is precisely there that favorable conditions for mosquito proliferation can be generated." He added that "from the City Council, we are intensifying efforts to anticipate the problem, review the most sensitive areas, and apply the necessary treatments wherever a possible focus is detected."
The extraordinary plan includes a specific review of drains and other public street elements where water may be retained after precipitation. These actions are complemented by surveillance and treatment in green areas and natural spaces. In La Marjalería, due to its characteristics, intensive monitoring of points susceptible to water accumulation is being carried out.
Ferrer highlighted that "prevention is fundamental, especially after rainfall events, which is why we have launched this extraordinary reinforcement to act where necessary." The goal is to "maintain constant surveillance and prevent the conditions generated by the rains from translating into a greater presence of mosquitoes in the city."
The councilor also recalled the importance of citizen collaboration to avoid small water accumulations in private spaces, recommending emptying containers, buckets, or plant pot saucers. "Small amounts of water can also become breeding grounds, and therefore, prevention must be a shared task," he concluded.
