The Councilor for Urban Planning and Infrastructure, Sergio Toledo, announced that the Local Government Board has approved the public exhibition of the proposal to end the Acoustically Saturated Zone (ZAS) Tascas. This decision comes after results certified that practically all demands over more than a year have been positive and below the permitted acoustic level, thus eliminating the causes that led to its declaration. Furthermore, the absence of neighborhood complaints regarding the area's activity in recent years has been noted.
Since December 2008, with the Municipal Acoustic Plan, corrective measures have been implemented to reduce the acoustic impact in the Tascas area. The declaration as ZAS occurred in October 2010, covering the space between Barracas street, Isaac Peral street, Santa Clara square, Major street, and Vera street. In 2014, modifications and updates to these measures were agreed upon.
Following the implementation of various measures and measurement practices, a final results report from the Continuous Acoustic Monitoring Service of the ZAS zone, conducted between December 2024 and February 2026, has been presented to the City Council. Sergio Toledo highlighted the ongoing dialogue with the owners of hospitality establishments to work towards the continuity of Tascas.
The Government Board has agreed to consider this final report and to publicly exhibit the proposal to end the ZAS zone declaration. This public exhibition, lasting one month, will be carried out through announcements in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana, in a general information newspaper of the province, and on the municipal notice board and website (www.castello.es). The next step will be to obtain approval from the Ministry of Environment.
The objective of this exhibition is the creation of a Gastronomic Tradition Space in the Tascas area, regulated by Law 8/2018 of the Generalitat Valenciana. With the new scenario, the number of licenses and operating hours for establishments in this Gastronomic Tradition Space could be extended. The Government team, led by mayor Begoña Carrasco, supports this new designation, equating Tascas to other emblematic areas like Laurel street in Logroño or the Tubo area of Zaragoza.
Sergio Toledo emphasized that Tascas is a symbol of identity to be protected for its economic activity, employment, and tourist appeal. This decision ensures the survival of this traditional meeting point for several generations of Castellón residents.
