The aim is to facilitate access to affordable housing for young people and families in the municipality. "Access to housing is one of the main concerns across the country, and Castellón is no exception," stated Carrasco, emphasizing that "this is the legislature of housing" to increase supply and allow citizens to pursue their life projects in the city.
Carrasco stressed the necessity of progressing with land urbanization and processing before construction can begin. "Each sector has its own timelines, but we are making progress in all of them to move projects forward. We want Castellón to grow in an orderly manner, opening new opportunities for affordable housing access," she added.
The Soler i Godes sector is the most advanced, with urbanization expected to conclude by year-end. This area will accommodate 439 homes and include improvements to the school's surroundings, featuring new streets, a safer pedestrian access, and a green zone exceeding 1,800 square meters. Building permits for the structures can now be requested.
For Bovalar and Donoso Cortés, the projection is for urbanization works to commence in 2027, following the resolution of objections and the submission of building permits in Bovalar's case.
The City Council is also progressing in four other sectors: Gran Via, where objections are being addressed; Censal III, with its partial plan already drafted and procedures underway to incorporate land linked to Sensal Park; the Barcelona sector, updating a project stalled since 2011 by the Valencian Housing and Land Entity; and Cremor, completing the planned seven residential areas.
This development is part of a broader strategy. The City Council is seeking European funds to act as a developer and incorporate 250 public housing units. Additionally, 123 protected homes are planned in Censal with the Generalitat and the Neighborhood Plan, involving a 17 million euro investment to renovate 594 homes.
"We are promoting land for new housing, working to expand public development, and improving neighborhoods where thousands of families already live. These actions align with a single priority: facilitating access to a home in Castellón," Carrasco stated.
Furthermore, the first municipal aid for young renters has been launched, with a budget of 400,000 euros and 141 applications received. "New homes take time to materialize, but some young people need support now. That's why we complement residential development with aid to facilitate their access to renting," the mayor concluded.
