This route, already operational since the start of the school year, combines road safety, sustainable mobility, and education, aiming to enable students to get to school more safely, accessibly, and autonomously. The presentation was attended by the Councilor for Mobility, Gonzalo Romero, and the deputy mayor of El Grau, Ester Giner, along with the school's management, representatives from the AMPA, the educational community, families, and students.
Gonzalo Romero highlighted that school paths “are much more than a marked route” and emphasized that they enhance safety, foster student autonomy, and offer families real alternatives for getting to school. The councilor also stressed that this new School Path brings together “safety, education, autonomy, and participation.” For her part, Ester Giner valued the involvement of the school and the students, noting that the project contributes to continuing to build “a Grau that is increasingly modern, accessible, sustainable, and safe.”
“La Ruta de Tirant, We Learn While We Walk” features a route of nearly three kilometers and five information totems, located at key points and at the educational center itself. The goal is for the journey to be not only a safe way to reach school but also an opportunity to learn and better understand the surroundings. The project also incorporates specific measures to improve safety and accessibility, such as a pedestrian refuge, a chicane, speed bumps, a Kiss & Ride zone, accessible parking spaces, enhanced visibility of pedestrian crossings, and new pedestrian intersections.
The presentation event included the symbolic placement of the first footprint of the School Path by Romero and Giner alongside 6th-grade students. Following this, a theatrical performance inspired by Tirant lo Blanc took place, along with guided theatrical tours along the route for 5th-grade students.
The event also served as the opening for the European Mobility Week 2026 in Castelló. With this new route, Castelló now has ten school paths, and a new project is planned for CEIP Benadressa. This initiative is integrated into Castelló's Network of Educational Centers for Sustainable Mobility.
