Today, September 8, 2026, marks 775 years since the signing of the Privilege of Transfer, granted in 1251. This historical document allowed the inhabitants of Castell Vell to definitively settle in La Plana, marking the origin of modern-day Castellón. The city's mayor, Begoña Carrasco, participated in a commemorative event organized by the Knights Templar next to the monument to King James I.
During the ceremony, the Privilege of Transfer was read aloud. Subsequently, the mayor and the president and grand master of the Knights Templar, Sergio B. Sánchez Ruiz, laid a laurel wreath at the foot of the monument to James I.
“"775 years have passed since then, but that decision continues to hold an essential place in our city's identity."
Carrasco highlighted the importance of using this commemoration to bring Castellón's residents closer to the history, heritage, and figures who made the birth and development of Castellón possible.
The mayor also thanked the involvement of the Knights Templar, an entity linked for over twenty years to the Festes de la Magdalena. She pointed out that their presence at this tribute unites the figure of James I, the city's history, and one of Castellón's established traditions.
