The environmental campaign 'Petjades Positives 2026', promoted by the Castellón City Council and Econsciencia under the slogan “The sea begins with you”, has concluded after eleven weekends covering the Pinar, Gurugú, and Serradal beaches. The objective was awareness and care for the coastline.
The Councilor for Environment, Gonzalo Romero, highlighted citizen involvement, stating that "the results show that environmental awareness works when we bring citizens information, activities, and tools to get directly involved." The removal of 58 kilos of waste, over 2,700 cigarette butts, and nearly 2,900 microplastics and small plastic fragments demonstrates the commitment of residents and visitors to the conservation of the beaches.
The initiative, developed between June 27 and September 6, featured information tents at ten locations and combined outreach, environmental activities, and citizen participation to raise awareness about the richness of the Mediterranean ecosystem and the importance of its conservation. Topics such as oceanic posidonia, marine and dune fauna, and the impact of waste were addressed.
Romero emphasized the municipal goal of making the beaches "increasingly cared-for and sustainable spaces," combining cleaning with environmental education to foster responsible actions throughout the year.
The campaign saw high participation, with 749 people attending courses and workshops, 983 in digital contests, and 1,688 assisted at the information area. Additionally, 1,650 pocket ashtrays were distributed to prevent cigarette butt littering. The “Aventura Litoral” passport was one of the highlighted activities for learning about and protecting the coastal environment.
Econsciencia positively assessed the results, noting the public's interest in coastal conservation and the aim to maintain commitment year-round.
