The Councilor for Festivities of the l'Alfàs del Pi City Council, Sandra Gómez, accompanied by councilors Patrick de Meirsman and Carolina Sobes, along with Enrique Picó, Ecovidrio technician for the Valencian Community and Murcia, presented the awards to Fernando Llorente, from the Sense Limits peña, and Laura Montagud, from the Cubata peña. Each received a local produce hamper valued at 100 euros.
The ‘La Peña Recicla’ campaign incentivizes the collection of glass containers through friendly competition among the peñas. Participants could deposit and weigh their glass waste on a scale installed in the Eucaliptos Park, with monitoring by Ecovidrio's environmental educators. In the 2026 edition, the Cubata peña secured first place by recycling 30 kilos of glass containers.
The Councilor for Festivities, Sandra Gómez, congratulated the winning peñas and thanked the involvement of all the peñas in l'Alfàs del Pi, stating that “they make it possible for our festivities to be more participatory and also more respectful of our environment each year”. She highlighted the importance of initiatives like Ecovidrio's, which “take advantage of the festive atmosphere to convey a message of awareness and demonstrate that enjoying festivities and caring for the environment are perfectly compatible”.
The l'Alfàs City Council also thanks Ecovidrio for promoting awareness actions that bring recycling closer to citizens and festive groups, aiming for waste separation and recycling to become daily habits.
Glass can be recycled integrally and indefinitely. In l'Alfàs del Pi, during 2025, 743,374 kilos of glass containers were recycled, an average of 35.3 kilos per inhabitant. The municipality has 174 containers for this type of waste.
The City Council specifically wished to thank the peñas for their participation in this initiative and encourage the continued incorporation of recycling into festive celebrations, demonstrating that fun, coexistence, and respect for the environment can go hand in hand.
