The renovation of the historic center has allowed for more pedestrian space, improved accessibility, and modernized the area's infrastructure. The square and Federico García Lorca street have been transformed into a single-level platform, without unevenness, to promote pedestrian mobility and access for everyone.
The municipal project included the renewal of underground infrastructure, such as water and sewage networks, new conduits, lighting, and paving, as well as the incorporation of green areas, trees, and rest spaces. The design was carried out by MOMP Estudio de arquitectura.
One of the notable elements is a sculptural pedestal intended to record the names of the ambassadors of the Fiestas del Santísimo Cristo. Young Valeria Orta, this year's ambassador, will be the first to inaugurate this space with her name.
The mayor, Vicente Arques, highlighted the effort made to modernize the historic center and reclaim public space. "We have gained a lot of space, eliminated architectural barriers, and reduced the prominence of vehicular traffic," he stated.
The pine tree, a symbol of the municipality, has also been preserved. A stone bench has been built around it, serving as a resting area and meeting point, and will allow for the engraving of the dates of the different pine trees that have been part of the square's history.
