The Serra Gelada Natural Park is celebrating International Geodiversity Day with two educational activities scheduled for October, aiming to bring its geological heritage closer to the public.

The program will kick off on October 8th with a catamaran tour of the park's marine area, departing at 10:30 AM from the Port of Altea. This activity, which will allow participants to discover the geological and landscape values from the sea, costs 12 euros for adults and 10 euros for children, with limited spots. Reservations can be made through Mundo Marino, in collaboration with the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Alicante.
The second event will take place on October 31st in l’Alfàs del Pi, featuring a guided tour along the Faro de l’Albir route. The activity begins at 9:30 AM from the Faro de l’Albir route parking lot and concludes at 1:00 PM. Participation is free, but prior registration is required by sending an email to serragelada@gva.es, as places are limited.
The Faro de l’Albir route is a key area for understanding the geodiversity of Serra Gelada, showcasing large coastal cliffs, fossil dunes, and unique geological formations. The Valencian Government highlights the presence of fossil dunes hanging over the cliffs and old ochre mines, elements that explain the formation of the current landscape.
Serra Gelada, located between Benidorm, l’Alfàs del Pi, and Altea, features unique reliefs with cliffs exceeding 400 meters. The Faro de l’Albir Interpretation Center (CIFA) also promotes the park's environmental values.
The celebration of International Geodiversity Day, established by UNESCO on October 6th, offers an opportunity to learn about geological heritage, often less recognized than biodiversity, yet fundamental to understanding landscapes and ecosystems.
The L'Alfàs del Pi City Council encourages citizens to take advantage of these opportunities to discover the municipality's natural heritage, particularly the area around the Faro de l’Albir, reminding them to register as soon as possible.
