The inaugural address will take place on Saturday, September 19th, during the traditional popular dinner that marks the start of the festive events. The Councilor for Festivities, Jaime Santamaría, along with the president of the Festival Commission, María José Galiana Llinares, and the speaker, have confirmed the details for these events dedicated to San Miguel.
Jaime Santamaría highlighted the importance of these festivities for the tradition and identity of the municipality. For her part, María Isabel Lloret Climent, a long-time resident of the neighborhood and involved in the festivities, is finalizing the text of her speech, which will share her experiences with attendees. Her 'barraca' (festive tent), El Puntazo, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
The official program of events will run from September 25th to 29th. Prior to this, on Wednesday, September 23rd, the neighborhood decoration will begin. On Thursday the 24th, the 'barracas' will participate in a costume parade. On Friday the 25th, the day will start with a 'despertà' (wake-up call with fireworks) at 8:30 AM, followed by traditional games and the 'La millor tapeta de l’Ermita' (best tapa) contest at midday. In the afternoon, there will be children's games and the gastronomic event 'Les tapetes dels Reis' (the Kings' tapas).
On Saturday the 26th, after the 'despertà' and children's games, the paella contest will be held. The afternoon will include a 'tardeo' (afternoon party) with DJ performances, a foam party, an orchestra, and 'correfocs' (fire run). On Sunday the 27th, there will be a classic motorcycle exhibition, traditional games, the 'All i Oli' (garlic and oil) contest, and a water party. On Monday the 28th, a demonstration of traditional crafts and dance and music performances will take place.
On Tuesday, September 29th, San Miguel's day, the day will begin with a mass at 11:00 AM in the parish of San Antonio Abad. In the afternoon, the image of the saint will proceed through the neighborhood in a solemn procession, accompanied by the Municipal Corporation and residents, concluding with a fireworks display.
