Mayor Marcos Zaragoza highlighted the event's success, calling it "unique and something we will always remember." He emphasized the town's commitment to this sporting occasion and the opportunity it presented to showcase the municipality. The mayor thanked the Provincial Council of Alicante and the Costa Blanca Tourism Board for supporting Villajoyosa as the venue for such a significant mountain stage, covering all associated costs.
The neutralized start of the cycling peloton took place from the front line of the Centro beach. Several authorities participated in the event, including the President of the Generalitat, Juan Francisco Pérez; the President of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Toni Pérez; Unipublic's General Director, Javier Guillén; Second Vice President and Minister of Presidency, José Díez; and eleven-time cyclocross world champion, Felipe Orts, among other La Vuelta representatives. The Councilor for Sports, Peyo Lloret, and members of the local government were also present.
The 9th stage, covering 187 kilometers with 5,100 meters of elevation gain, promises to be one of the toughest of the 2026 edition, featuring six mountain passes. The peloton began its route from the beach, passing through iconic points such as Costera la Mar, Avenida País Valencià, Barranquet Street, Avenida Benidorm, Colón Street, the roundabout of Avenida del Puerto, and the road crossing Secanet to connect with the CV-759 towards Finestrat.
Spectators were able to cheer on the cyclists up close. The City Council distributed commemorative t-shirts, and crosswalks were painted in La Vuelta's colors to support the cyclists. Before the start, Mayor Marcos Zaragoza participated in the ceremony for the "Más Bici" (More Bike) seals awarded by the Provincial Council of Alicante.
Marcos Zaragoza emphasized the global impact of the event and thanked the residents, visitors, volunteers, municipal workers, and fans for their involvement. Councilor for Sports, Peyo Lloret, also acknowledged the dedication of all municipal departments, including the Local Police, cleaning services, and Technical Services, for ensuring the smooth running of the day.
