The accessible beach service in Villajoyosa, situated this year at Basseta de l’Oli, concludes its operations this Tuesday at 5:00 PM. Since June 15th, this initiative has supported an average of 120 users each day.
The Councilor for Social Services and Equality, Maite Sánchez, highlighted the importance of this service, which has been available to the elderly and people with mobility issues to ensure their access to the sea throughout the summer. "This service assists an average of 120 people per day, users who can swim or be on the beach in a comfortable and accessible space for three summer months," she noted.
The accessible beach was equipped with crutches for water entry and amphibious chairs, allowing users to immerse themselves safely. Additionally, a team of qualified professionals provided assistance during the service's operating hours. Chairs were also installed in the water for bathers' comfort.
The Department of Social Services and Equality also arranged free transportation to facilitate beach access for individuals with reduced mobility, from July 1st to September 15th.
The First Deputy Mayor, Pedro Ramis, emphasized the City Council's commitment to universal accessibility. "This accessible beach is a clear example of this, not only for our seniors but so that anyone with mobility problems can enjoy our beach," he stated.
