A total of 5,396 children returned to classrooms this Wednesday, September 9th, in the public schools of Villajoyosa to start the 2026-2027 academic year. Of these, 2,636 students are in Early Childhood and Primary Education; 101 in special education; 2,459 in secondary education, baccalaureate, and vocational training; and 200 will join the Adult Education School (EPA).
The first day of the new term proceeded without incident in the municipality's eight public schools and two secondary education institutes. The only exception was the IES Marcos Zaragoza, where classes were delayed by one day due to construction work to improve access to the center.
“"The return to school for Villajoyosa students has proceeded with complete normality. The students' entry has been delayed by one day for safety reasons. As everyone knows, we are carrying out construction work in the vicinity to make the center more accessible, which also includes a road around it, and we had to finish securing that access so that students can attend class with complete safety."
The Councilor for Education, Marisa Mingot, emphasized that "the first day back to school has started with total normality in all Villajoyosa's centers".
During the summer, municipal departments such as Technical Services and Urban Scene carried out maintenance tasks and improvement works in public centers. Mayor Marcos Zaragoza indicated that "the plan we are initiating for the maintenance and improvement of schools will continue to address necessary aspects of the centers. There are restrooms in schools that are in poor condition or facilities that need improvement. We have fenced off Poble Nou and installed an elevator at Mare Nostrum, an investment that improves accessibility and the daily lives of students and teachers".
