The second phase of the renovation of the Mediterranean Avenue in Benidorm has generated a new confrontation between the Socialist Municipal Group and the government team of the Popular Party, with accusations of 'blockage' and defenses of technical management.

The project for the second phase of the Mediterranean Avenue in Benidorm has once again been the center of local political debate. The PSOE has expressed its concern over what it considers a 'systematic delay' in a work they describe as the mayor's 'star project' Toni Pérez.
The socialist deputy spokesperson, Sergi Castillo, recalled that the mayor himself announced during the election campaign the promotion of this phase and the intention to advance in the project's drafting during 2024. However, according to the PSOE, this forecast has not materialized in the contract tender, leaving the avenue divided between a section already renovated and another pending modernization.

"The project is still not out for tender, which leaves residents and shopkeepers in a state of abandonment and with the avenue divided between a section already renovated and another pending modernization for years."

For its part, the spokesperson for the municipal government, Lourdes Caselles, has defended that the project 'is progressing adequately' and in accordance with the times of administrative and municipal technical procedures. She explained that the tender documents for the project's drafting are already finalized and in the review phase in the Engineering department for the final adjustments before their definitive approval.
Caselles has rejected the PSOE's criticisms, accusing them of trying to 'alarm' and create an image of blockage that does not correspond to reality. She insisted that the administration's deadlines are conditioned by regulations and technical procedures, not by political criteria. The local government maintains that the objective is to have the project ready within the current term 2023-2027.
