The project to complete the municipal auditorium in Xàbia, a major effort from the previous term that remained unfinished, has been taken up by the current government team. After two construction companies abandoned the works and they were definitively suspended in 2022, now, four years later, a tender has been launched for the drafting of the completion project.
The State Contracting Platform recently published the tender to select the architect responsible for the final design of the already built structure, as well as for the supervision of future works. This tender was initiated following a directive from the Councilor for Culture, Mavi Pérez, and the Councilor for Urban Planning, Pere Sapena, and based on the report by Applus on the condition of the existing structure.
The selected architect will have a maximum of four months to analyze Applus's report and draft the definitive project to conclude the municipal auditorium. Additionally, they will oversee the works once they are awarded to a construction company.
This project, which was a real 'headache' for the former socialist mayor José Chulvi, experienced several awards and abandonments. The first award was in late 2017, followed by an abandonment a year later. A second award to Proyecon Galicia ended with the company's withdrawal in June 2020. Furthermore, the council rescinded the contract with the work's supervision, San Juan Arquitectura, a resolution confirmed by the courts in 2025.
Following the change of government in 2023, Rosa Cardona's administration decided to assess the structure's condition to determine whether to resume work or start from scratch. Based on the technical reports, the decision has been made to continue with the project.
The estimated budget to complete the auditorium is around 5 million euros. The building, located on a plot of over 2,500 square meters, features 524 seats, a 187-square-meter stage, a rehearsal room, and dressing rooms. The initial award was for approximately 2.39 million euros, with a bidding price of 3.3 million.
