The Salvamar Fénix, a Maritime Rescue vessel based in the port of Xàbia, has managed to free the sailboat Alomar from the rocks where it had run aground. The incident occurred in the Portitxol 'freu', a narrow channel between the Illa del Portitxol and the coast of Xàbia, where navigation is prohibited due to shallow waters and the risk of grounding.
The two crew members on board were unharmed, and the sailboat Alomar suffered no structural damage, being able to resume sailing after being towed. This event highlights the recklessness of navigating this area, despite the existing buoys warning of the danger.
The Portitxol 'freu' has a reduced depth, posing a constant risk to vessels, especially those that disregard the prohibition. Jet skis and other recreational boats often ignore the warnings, endangering maritime safety and their own integrity.
This incident is part of a season marked by several shipwrecks in Xàbia. A few weeks ago, a motorboat sank in the same Portitxol. Additionally, the sailboat Bau Bau has been grounded in Primer Muntanyar for over a year, and the fishing boat El Terrible was recently refloated after sinking in the port.
