Two hikers have been rescued by helicopter from Montgó, on the Dénia side, for suffering exhaustion and dehydration due to the intense heat.

A special rescue team from the Alicante Firefighters Consortium carried out an operation to evacuate two hikers who suffered exhaustion and dehydration while ascending Montgó, on the Dénia slope. The alert was received at 2:58 PM, when the hikers were halfway along the trail and had sought scarce shade to shelter from the sun.
Rescuers rappelled from the helicopter and, after confirming that the two hikers were well and suffered no injuries or lesions, they were brought aboard the aircraft. Subsequently, they were transferred to the Dénia fire station, where they received hydration and recovered quickly.
The rescue concluded at 4:45 PM. This incident occurs on the eve of the closure of the Montgó natural park, which will be sealed off for three days due to level 3 forest fire pre-emergency and red alert for extreme heat. The park's trails and paths will be closed.
This is not the first rescue of its kind on Montgó in the summer, as several hikers have suffered similar situations by ascending the mountain during the hottest hours.
