The Marina Alta has endured an infernal night, with temperature readings described by experts as 'horribly high'. Particularly in the south of the region, Benissa recorded 37 degrees at 0:30 AM, while Calp and Parcent reached 36 degrees. Other towns like Xaló and Senija registered 34 degrees, and Dénia, 27 degrees.
This Thursday marks the third consecutive day of extreme heat, with temperatures potentially exceeding 40 °C again. According to MeteoParcent, an anticyclone has acted as a heat dome, accumulating and reheating the air day by day, causing a daily increase of 3-5 °C.
A truce, albeit a temporary one, arrives starting Friday. The north-easterly wind will cool the atmosphere but also increase humidity. Maximum temperatures are expected to drop to around 34 °C with humidity above 50%, transitioning from a 'dryer' to a 'sauna' environment, likely resulting in a more pronounced muggy feeling.
The meteorological situation could become complicated again next week. A DANA (isolated depression at high levels) located west of Portugal may pump a very warm air mass towards the east of the Iberian Peninsula, causing temperatures to rise above 40 °C once more.
