The Marina Alta region ranks low in the economic indicators of the Valencian Community regarding retirement pensions. The regional median stands at 1,031.41 euros per month, according to the latest data published by the Institut Valencià d’Estadística (IVE). This figure positions the region as the eighth with the lowest median retirement pension among the 33 Valencian regions.
The median represents the value that divides pensioners into two equal groups: half receive more than 1,031.41 euros, and the other half receive less. Within the province of Alicante, Marina Alta has the third lowest median pension, surpassed only by Baix Segura-Vega Baja (966.68 euros) and Vinalopó Mitjà (1,027.40 euros). The difference with the latter region is only four euros.
The median pension for the entire Valencian Community reaches 1,204.20 euros per month, representing a gap of 172.79 euros (14.3% less) compared to Marina Alta. The regional figure also falls below the medians of the three provinces: Alicante (1,114.21 euros), Castellón (1,134.91 euros), and Valencia (1,256.60 euros).
Regarding the municipalities within Marina Alta, the IVE provides data on the average monthly pension. La Vall d’Alcalà leads with the highest pensions at 1,507.23 euros, being the only municipality above 1,500 euros. It is followed by Dénia (1,428.73 euros) and Xàbia (1,308.59 euros). In total, 12 municipalities exceed 1,200 euros on average.
At the opposite end, Llíber has the lowest average pension at 876.90 euros, being the only municipality below 900 euros. Castell de Castells (990.78 euros) is the other municipality with an average below 1,000 euros. The difference between the municipality with the highest and lowest average pension exceeds 630 euros per month.
