A fire at a car junkyard in El Verger has produced intense black, toxic smoke, requiring firefighters to work intensely and residents to shelter in place.

A fire declared at a car junkyard in El Verger has turned numerous vehicles into a heap of twisted metal, generating a large fireball. The Provincial Firefighters Consortium released a 19-second video showing the scale of the flames and the incinerated industrial material.
The primary concern throughout the afternoon was the toxic content of the materials consumed by the flames. The jet-black smoke, visible across much of the region, prompted the Dénia City Council to urge residents of Les Marines to close their doors and windows to protect their health.
According to consortium reports, the fire's evolution has been favorable, and precautionary measures due to potential smoke toxicity have been lifted. However, the fire remained active at 9:00 PM on Wednesday. Extinguishing industrial fires like this is never easy, especially with the extremely high temperatures recorded throughout the day during the current heatwave.
