The Marina Alta region has experienced a black Saturday on its roads. The most serious incident was an accident on the N-332 bypass in Benissa, which resulted in the deaths of a 19-year-old woman and a 65-year-old driver. Two other people were seriously injured. Almost simultaneously, another accident occurred on the AP-7 section in Ondara and El Verger when a van collided with the guardrail. In this case, there were no injuries.
The accident on the AP-7 caused significant traffic jams in the Ondara section. Meanwhile, in the opposite direction, there were also major traffic jams, a common occurrence on Saturday afternoons during the summer. A large number of tourist cars heading to the beaches of Dénia and Xàbia paralyzed the highway exit in Ondara.
The traffic jams on the highway pale in comparison to the tragedy on the Benissa bypass. This section of the N-332, opened four years ago to divert traffic from the urban center, has become a black spot on the road network of the Marina Alta, with repeated accidents, including fatal ones in recent years.
