The department has responded to the statement from the Official College of Nursing of Valencia, categorically rejecting the criticisms received. According to the Management, assistance to pregnant women and newborns has been guaranteed at all times, regretting that public conclusions were issued without having previously verified the situation with those responsible for the center.
Regarding the organization of human resources, Nursing Management states that the scheduling of vacations and substitutions was carried out months in advance and was authorized by the Department of Health. However, they acknowledge a structural shortage of midwives, a problem that affects several departments in the Valencian Community.
Regarding the midwives' proposal to implement 24-hour ordinary shifts, the department explained that it was discarded after a technical and legal study. According to the Management, this modality does not comply with current regulations on rest and occupational risk prevention, in addition to considering that it would not solve the current coverage problems.
Finally, the Management has shown its willingness to maintain dialogue with professionals and their representatives to seek joint solutions, while criticizing the use of incorrect terminology in public complaints regarding the labor planning of healthcare personnel.
