The Moors and Christians festivities of El Genovés featured a notable novelty this year: the participation of a squad from the Aspromivise association, which works with people with functional diversity from Xàtiva and La Costera. Integrated into the Jamalajams troupe, which holds the captaincy this year, the Aspromivise users paraded through the streets accompanied by the local music band, gaining visibility and being treated as any other troupe.
Aspromivise values this initiative as "the path for it to happen again in the future and not be so striking." The idea, driven by the Jamalajams troupe and its captain, Julio García, seeks to "show that all people, according to their tastes, want to participate in the festivities." The association is grateful for the opportunity provided, which has allowed many individuals to enjoy an experience they "would never have had the chance to parade in a Moors and Christians festival." They highlight the message of inclusion and the positive value of differences.
According to Aspromivise, the festivities of El Genovés "are fairer from this year onwards," valuing diversity. The association cites the words of Paralympic athlete David Casinos, who stated that "true inclusion will be when we no longer talk about it because it is a reality," a perspective that, according to Aspromivise, was experienced last Saturday at the Moors and Christians festivities.
