Paiporta's City Council has unanimously greenlit a formal request to the Generalitat Valenciana. The objective is to guarantee suitable climate conditions at IES Andreu Alfaro, an educational center that has repeatedly voiced its needs regarding air conditioning.
The motion, presented by the Compromís Municipal Group, urges the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Universities to comply with the requirement issued by the Labor Inspection. This body visited the center on March 11th and found existing measures, such as fans and blinds, to be insufficient against high temperatures in south-facing first-floor classrooms. The Inspection mandated the installation of air conditioning as a priority before September 5th, a deadline that has now passed without action from the Ministry.
The school's administration had already communicated the issue to the Ministry in October 2025, warning of fainting episodes among teachers and students due to the heat. The Councilor for Education, Olga Sandrós, emphasized the need for a swift response, noting that the City Council is acting within its powers to improve local educational centers.
Sandrós recalled the municipal investments made this year in other schools, such as CEIP Lluís Vives (nearly 13,000 euros) and CEIP Ausiàs March (7,500 euros), for installing air conditioning units. However, she stressed that the responsibility for IES Andreu Alfaro's infrastructure lies with the Generalitat.
The mayor of Paiporta, Vicent Ciscar, highlighted the municipal commitment to being close to educational centers and listening to their needs. He pointed out that, despite local investments, they will continue to ask the Generalitat to assume its responsibilities regarding educational infrastructure.
The agreement, approved with support from Compromís, PSPV-PSOE, PP, and VOX, also requests the Ministry for a specific execution timeline for the necessary actions, including improvements to the electrical system and risk assessments for high-temperature episodes.
