The Valencian Fund for Solidarity has organized a solidarity response with the Venezuelan people, activating its emergency protocol after participating in the call from the Permanent Committee for Humanitarian Action and Emergencies of the Valencian Community (CAHE). The objective is to channel resources to alleviate the humanitarian crisis caused by the recent earthquakes, which have left a devastating toll of over 5,500 deaths, 17,000 injured, and 20,000 people homeless.
The extraordinary contributions from the 17 participating municipalities amount to €71,070, to which €30,000 from the Valencian Fund, derived from ordinary contributions, are added. These funds will be allocated to two projects accepted by CAHE, which will be carried out in collaboration with ACNUR (UNHCR) and UNICEF.
With ACNUR, non-food emergency kits will be distributed to 375 families (1,875 people), including kitchenware, mats, blankets, solar lights, and water containers. With UNICEF, access to essential water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services will be improved, directly benefiting 4,500 people and indirectly another 4,000.
The signing of the agreements took place in Paiporta, a municipality that also severely suffered the catastrophe of the DANA (intense rainfall). This event symbolizes the growing sensitivity and solidarity of Valencian municipalities with countries in emergency situations, especially after having experienced similar crises.
Representatives from the Valencian Fund for Solidarity, led by its president, Xelo Angulo; mayors like Vicent Císcar of Paiporta; and representatives from ACNUR and UNICEF participated in the event. Angulo highlighted Valencian municipalism as an example of international cooperation, while Císcar emphasized the importance of external support based on personal experience.
The Valencian Fund for Solidarity currently brings together 166 member local entities (158 municipalities and 8 associations of municipalities) from the Valencian Community, promoting projects in international cooperation, humanitarian action, and education for development.
