The Paterna City Council has approved a reduction of nearly 3 million euros in water bills for the municipality's families, through subsidies for the Environmental Fee and the waste tax.

An extraordinary Plenary session held today in Paterna has approved several modifications to the fees associated with water bills. The aim is to ease the financial burden on Paterna families and simplify the bill, which will now include only charges directly related to the water supply.
The total savings for households amount to approximately 3 million euros. This figure is the sum of nearly 2 million euros from the Environmental Fee, which the council will now cover, and a 15% subsidy on the European waste tax for all properties in the municipality.
The Mayor of Paterna, Juan Antonio Sagredo, highlighted that these measures are in addition to other initiatives such as "one of the lowest property taxes (IBI) in Spain, the granting of 100% of early childhood education grants, sports scholarships, the Commerce Voucher, the Baby Voucher, the Employment Voucher, and the Entrepreneur Voucher." Sagredo reiterated that "our priority is the families of Paterna: helping them face their daily expenses and being by their side when they need it most."
The modification of the Environmental Fee ordinance means the City Council will cover the approximately 2 million euros of its cost. Consequently, the majority of households will no longer pay it. This measure benefits all residences, with a 100% subsidy for 93% of homes and an 80% subsidy for those exceeding 40 cubic meters of consumption every two months. This fee funds works against flooding, stormwater management, network maintenance, and integral water cycle infrastructure.
Furthermore, the Plenary session approved requesting the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Regional Government) to exclude the TAMER tax from water bills for all Paterna residents. It was also agreed to separate the urban solid waste collection and transport fee (European waste tax) from the water bill, charging it on a separate bill with a 15% subsidy for all Paterna homes.
Through these actions, the council aims to reduce the financial burden on households and achieve a clearer water bill, containing exclusively charges linked to the supply. "We want our residents to pay less and have a clearer water bill," concluded Sagredo.
