From September 16 to 22, Rafelbunyol is taking part in European Mobility Week, an initiative that invites municipalities to reflect on how we travel and its relationship with health, the environment, and quality of life. The City Council has prepared a series of proposals to raise public awareness about the benefits of more sustainable mobility.
The program begins on September 16 with a photography and drawing contest on sustainable mobility, accompanied by a literature exhibition on the theme at the Rafelbunyol Library. Participants can submit their works until September 22 via the Instagram account @euro_rafel or by emailing projecteseuropeus@rafelbunyol.es. Winning entries, chosen by a local jury, will receive prizes such as a monthly sports voucher or bicycle accessories.
On September 21, a conference on mobility and health will be held, featuring the participation of the Network of Walking Cities and a presentation by Ana Montalbán on «100 ideas to improve our cities». Rafelbunyol's 'metrominut' will also be unveiled, a tool to visualize walking distances and approximate travel times within the municipality, aiming to encourage this mode of daily transport.
The week will also focus on cycling, a sport with a strong tradition in Rafelbunyol, aiming to promote it as an alternative for daily commutes, alongside other non-motorized transport options like scooters.
Activities will conclude on September 22, World Car-Free Day. Students from IES Rafelbunyol will participate in an awareness event themed «The future moves». In the afternoon, a health walk will be organized with AECC Rafelbunyol, starting at 7:00 PM at the entrance of the Health Center, marking the beginning of AECC's annual walks in the municipality.
Rafelbunyol is also participating as a pilot municipality in the European project «Car-free spaces around schools», part of the JA PreventNCD program, coordinated by the Fisabio Foundation. This initiative aims to create healthier school environments and prevent non-communicable diseases from an early age.
The City Council will continue working to make Rafelbunyol a more accessible and friendly municipality, where walking, cycling, and enjoying public spaces become easier and more common options, thereby promoting the benefits of sustainable mobility for public health and the environment.
