Historian Daniel Corell has been officially appointed chronicler of Foios in a ceremony at the Casa de Cultura, with the goal of recovering and disseminating local memory.

Daniel Corell is now the official chronicler of Foios. Last Saturday, the hall of the Casa de Cultura was filled to accompany him in the solemn ceremony of his appointment. Corell acknowledged feeling a certain vertigo about the event but embraces the role as a great responsibility and a fulfilled dream, promising to do his best.
The mayor of Foios and councilor for Culture, Sergi Ruiz, presided over the event and presented Corell with the plenary certificate accrediting him. Ruiz highlighted the importance of the appointment to "value his work in recovering and disseminating our memory." Also present were members of the municipal corporation and official chroniclers from other municipalities in L'Horta Nord, such as Francisco Cardells (Meliana) and Julio Badenes (El Puig de Santa Maria), who acted as godfather and presented Corell with the honorary medal.
Daniel Corell, a historian native to Foios, has a 25-year teaching career at the José Lluch institute in Alboraya. For the past year, he has already been serving as chronicler, focusing his activity on recovering documents and testimonies to enhance understanding and preserve the municipality's memory. One of his priorities is to ensure that the topics he studies and publishes resonate with the general citizenry.
Corell considers 2026 a particularly symbolic year for Foios. This year marks the centenary of the start of operations at the Yutera sack factory, the activation of the telephone exchange, and the inauguration of Hugo Bacharach Avenue. It also marks 70 years since the opening of streets in the Barri de la Fila or Cantarrana, and celebrates the 750th anniversary of the death of Jaume I, a figure with a particular connection to Foios.
The new chronicler is already working on several lines of research, including studies on the Corell Montalt or Maçons lineage, the Artilleros saga, the figure of Bernardo Gómez Igual, and tracking the Ruiz de Liori lineage.
Corell expressed gratitude for the affection received and the information provided by many individuals, as well as the trust of the political groups and the support of the citizens. He also acknowledged the work of previous researchers, without whom "I wouldn't be here today."
With this appointment, Foios officially regains a figure dedicated to the study and dissemination of its history, heritage, culture, and collective memory.
