The ARTAGERE-Oncology program has been implemented in the Oncology and Hematology departments of the Valencia General Hospital. The aim is to offer enhanced emotional support to individuals undergoing cancer treatment, acknowledging the profound impact a diagnosis has on patients' lives throughout their therapy.
Art therapy provides a group, creative, and safe space where patients can express, explore, and channel their emotions through art. This free resource utilizes the creative process as a tool to facilitate personal connection and emotional communication, requiring no prior artistic experience. The focus is on the experience of creation, allowing patients to give words, colors, and forms to their treatment experiences.
Each group consists of six to eight participants and includes ten group sessions along with two individual interviews. The sessions are guided by professionals specialized in art therapy, who assist participants in exploring their emotions and discovering personal resources to cope with their situation. The methodology is person-centered, integrating artistic creation, symbolization, and personal expression.
The program will be developed in close coordination with the Oncology, Hematology teams, and the hospital's Humanization Commission. It is aimed at adult patients undergoing active oncological treatment and serves as a complementary support tool within multidisciplinary teams, benefiting patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
The initiative is driven by ART-AGERE, an entity with extensive experience in the healthcare sector dedicated to promoting emotional well-being and mental health through art therapy. Since 2019, the ARTAGERE-Oncology program, supported by the Fundació Nous Cims (DOMUM program), has been implemented in over 25 public hospitals across Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the Community of Madrid, demonstrating positive results in emotional well-being and quality of life.
This project has received recognition from the Ministry of Culture in the call for 'Aid for cultural projects with special social impact,' validating its methodology and socio-health impact.
