For three days, participants will race 700 meters along the beach on horseback, without any type of saddle, in elimination duels. The objective is to win the competition and receive the «joia» as a trophy—a silk scarf on a laurel crown.
The first day, Monday, August 10th, will include weighing and veterinary checks of the animals, as well as the first races for riders. August 11th, 13th, and 14th will feature more races, culminating in the trophy presentation on the final day.
Historically, over 150 years ago, this peculiar horse race was celebrated in the orchards of most towns in the L'Horta Sud region. Currently, Pinedo is the only Valencian town that keeps this tradition alive during its patron saint festivals.
This is a cultural event of tourist interest that combines tradition, history, and sport on the beach of this Valencian district.
