Municipal Social Services have had to coordinate the relocation of nearly 90 people who were evacuated due to the intensity of the fire and the large amount of smoke generated. The incident caused structural damage to three homes and several ground-floor units in the residential complex.
Police investigations point to an accidental origin of the fire. According to initial data, the blaze occurred during welding work carried out by workers to seal off access to premises that had been illegally occupied, shortly after a judicial eviction took place in the area.
As a result of these events, four workers have been arrested by the National Police for an alleged crime of gross negligence. Meanwhile, municipal technicians continue to assess the condition of the buildings to ensure safety before residents can return to their homes.
