The province of Valencia experienced the effects of predicted meteorological instability this Friday, August 14th, with storms bringing rain, hail, and strong winds, especially to the inland regions. Data from the Valencian Meteorology Association (Avamet) at 6:00 PM showed significant precipitation accumulations in numerous municipalities.
El Toro-Cerro Gil recorded the highest accumulation with 25.6 liters per square meter, followed by Montanejos (22.6 l/m²) and Zucaina (20 l/m²). In the province of Valencia, Tuéjar accumulated 15 l/m², while El Toro-Calle Mayor added 14.2 l/m². Cortes de Pallás-El Oro collected 12.4 l/m² and Torralba del Pinar 10.8 l/m².
Requena, in the Plana d'Utiel-Requena region, was one of the most affected areas, with 10.4 l/m² and a maximum wind gust of 76 km/h. The area experienced constant rain and hail, an extreme phenomenon arriving at a critical time for local viticulture, just weeks before the grape harvest.
Other locations such as Cortes de Pallás-El Oro registered 25.6 l/m² and gusts of up to 52 km/h. In La Serranía, Tuéjar accumulated 15 l/m², although the rain has now stopped. Alpuente (5.4 l/m²) and Gestalgar (5.1 l/m²) also recorded precipitation, while Chulilla remains under rain.
In La Hoya de Buñol, Siete Aguas accumulated 5.1 l/m² with no active rain, while Dos Aguas continues to receive precipitation (4.6 l/m²). Overall, rainfall has been widespread across the interior of the Valencian Community, with notable records such as 16.5 l/m² in Algimia de Almonacid and 9.6 l/m² in Jérica.
Wind was another significant factor, with gusts of 64 km/h in Cirat, 57 km/h in Villahermosa del Río, and 52 km/h in El Toro-Cerro Gil. The combination of storms, intense rainfall, and wind is creating a highly changeable weather situation.
Instability is expected to continue through Saturday, August 15th, with daytime convective clouds and new showers accompanied by thunderstorms in the interior, which could be locally strong and affect areas near the coast.
