The People's Party (PP) and Vox are continuing to refine amendments to the 2026 Budget Project. One of the most controversial proposals was from the far-right party to eliminate the funding that the Valencian Institute of Culture (IVC) provides to Fira Trovam to create a fund for 'bous en corda' (bulls on a rope). This Tuesday, the modifications proposed jointly by both parties will be debated and, presumably, approved.
Through transactional amendments, it is proposed to reduce the cut to Fira Trovam from 250,000 to 50,000 euros, meaning the initiative by VAM! (Valencia Music Association) would retain 200,000 euros of its original funding. However, the funds for the 'bous en corda' will be sourced from other budget lines.
Specifically, 15,000 euros will be reallocated from the budget for Artistic Heritage, Museums, and Plastic Arts, and 235,000 euros from Promotion and Cultural and Scenic Activity. With the remaining funds from these cuts, PP and Vox plan to establish a new competitive grant line for the 'Adaptation, promotion, dissemination, and theatrical representation of works from the Golden Age of Valencian literature'.
These budgetary changes, pending final approval, already have the consensus of both parties. On one hand, they avoid undermining the main professional event of the Valencian music industry. On the other hand, the majority of the cut will impact the Promotion and Cultural and Scenic Activity budget. The Ministry of Culture has indicated that the specific decision on how this allocation will be executed will fall to the managing body once the budget is definitively approved. The IVC and the Ministry maintain a tense relationship with professional sectors such as Performing Arts and Audiovisual, which have recently issued joint statements.
