Analysis by Meteorage's specialized lightning detection network, a subsidiary of Météo France, confirmed that electrical activity was concentrated mainly in the afternoon, peaking in intensity between 7 PM and 9 PM. These discharges affected both land and sea, with a significant portion occurring over the western Mediterranean.
Across Spain, the event generated 84,577 lightning strikes, with 17,035 reaching the ground. The Valencia Region led in cloud-to-ground lightning, followed by Catalonia (2,215) and Castilla-La Mancha (1,457).
The storms were also accompanied by very heavy rainfall in several Valencian municipalities. According to the Valencian Meteorology Association (Avamet), L'Eliana recorded 113.6 l/m², Chiva 108 l/m², and Torrent 106 l/m², demonstrating the intensity of precipitation in the Valencia metropolitan area.
Technicians emphasize that the key factor in this episode was not the individual intensity of the storm cells, but rather how long they remained over the same area, causing accumulated rainfall that can become dangerous. Joris Royet, Weather Project Manager at Meteorage, warned about the hydrological impact, noting that torrential rains can generate flows that ravines cannot evacuate, increasing the risk of sudden floods.
