Heat has become a recurring problem in Valencian classrooms, with high temperatures arriving earlier and lasting longer, highlighting the need to adapt educational centers to the climatic reality. In response, the Generalitat Valenciana has launched an extraordinary line of aid to improve the thermal comfort of schools and institutes.
According to data provided by the Conselleria d'Educació, the distribution of these funds in the province of València ranges from 5,000 to 25,000 euros per center, depending on their needs. The city of València leads the distribution with nearly 1.6 million euros for 150 centers, followed by l'Horta Sud with over a million for 129 centers. Other regions like l'Horta Nord, la Ribera Alta, and la Safor also concentrate a significant portion of the funding.
Conversely, regions with fewer educational centers, such as Rincón de Ademuz (18,000 euros for three centers) or Valle de Ayora-Cofrentes (43,000 euros for six centers), receive less. The breakdown per center reveals significant differences even within the same locality, responding to the specific characteristics of each building and the necessary interventions.
The metropolitan area of València, including municipalities like Torrent, Paterna, Sagunt, Gandia, Mislata, Burjassot, Catarroja, Alzira, or Xàtiva, concentrates a high number of beneficiary centers, explaining the funding concentration in regions like l'Horta, la Ribera Alta, or la Safor.
This 16 million euro call for proposals is independent of the Plan Edu Clima (funded with 140 million until 2029 for permanent solutions) and the Pla Recole (for infrastructure reforms). The extraordinary aid aims to immediately improve thermal comfort in the face of high temperatures.
However, some representatives of management teams have expressed criticism, considering the aid insufficient for a structural problem. The Conselleria d'Educació, on the other hand, emphasizes the transitional nature of this funding, which seeks to improve comfort while advancing the Plan Edu Clima.
