Both have been part of this list uninterruptedly since 2020, reflecting the international impact of their contributions to groundwater management and Earth observation from satellite.
Stanford's classification distinguishes between the cumulative impact throughout a researcher's entire career and that corresponding to citations received in the last analyzed year. Luis Guanter appears in both categories, while Jaime Gómez-Hernández is included in the career trajectory, which recognizes the sustained influence of his contributions.
Luis Guanter has furthermore climbed to be among the best-positioned UPV researchers in the annual ranking, reflecting the recent impact of his scientific activity.
Jaime Gómez-Hernández, head of the Hydrogeology group, focuses his research on improving aquifer characterization and reducing uncertainty about their behavior, fundamental aspects for the management and protection of underground water resources. His career has been recognized with various national and international awards.
Luis Guanter, head of the Terrestrial and Atmospheric Remote Sensing group (LARS), develops Earth observation techniques using satellites, with a special focus on detecting and quantifying methane emissions, a greenhouse gas with high warming potential. His team works on identifying and tracking emission sources globally.
Currently, Guanter combines his work as a researcher and professor at UPV with the scientific direction of the ValER Foundation, of which Jaime Gómez-Hernández is also a member of the board as an excellence researcher.
The "World’s Top 2% Scientists" ranking uses data from Scopus and combines indicators such as citations received, the h-index, and a composite indicator that considers co-authorship and author position in publications.
