The blaze started in a plot of land opposite the Oceanogràfic and the highway itself, in the area known as Camí Nou del Salinar. The intense smoke has caused traffic chaos and reduced driver visibility, prompting the Local Police to close access into and out of the city towards the beaches. Tram services have also been suspended.
While the exact causes of the fire are still unknown, images suggest it may have started between the two lanes of the highway. The smoke spread rapidly, reaching the Saler shopping center, the Oceanogràfic, and a significant portion of the Prince Felipe Museum.
