The filming of the live-action movie Tangled, produced by Disney, is in full swing in the Valencian Community. The company recently announced that the worldwide premiere will take place in cinemas in March 2028. The Generalitat Valenciana has released initial details of the production plan, highlighting an estimated economic impact of over 40 million euros due to the ongoing activity.
According to the official statement, filming began on June 29 in Spain, with the main production hub located at Ciudad de la Luz in Alicante. Filming is scheduled to conclude in October, while post-production activities will continue until November. Pre-production was carried out entirely in the Valencian Community between February and June, including location scouting, casting, set construction, and rehearsals. Locations such as the Colegio Diocesano Santo Domingo in Orihuela have also been used, although part of the filming in Spain also includes the Basque Country and Catalonia.
The production is expected to spend approximately seven weeks filming in the Valencian Community, spread across multiple phases. The Generalitat estimates that Ciudad de la Luz hosts a crew ranging from 200 to 700 people during the filming weeks. Disney has rented four soundstages, exterior warehouses, workshops, and production support buildings.
These details justify, according to assessments on behalf of President Pérez Llorca, the project's consideration as "of strategic importance for the Valencian Community." This underpins the direct subsidy of five million euros granted to the production company, an aid that has been denounced by the regional audiovisual sector and political opposition.
Currently, there is no public document detailing the agreement or the filming plan beyond official press releases. The Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) is expected to publish the declaration of strategic project and the convention formalizing the aid. Despite the filming being in an advanced stage, the details of the agreement remain undisclosed.
Following the recent release of a press statement by the Consell, official documents have been requested to verify both the economic impact calculation and the filming schedule details. These documents could refute suspicions from the audiovisual sector, which questioned the effective duration of the filming in the Valencian Community. The Generalitat initially announced months of filming, a figure that generated skepticism among local production companies.
Official sources refer to the future publication of agreements in the DOGV and remind that the million-euro subsidy will not be disbursed without justification of the announced economic impact.
