A group of children attending the summer school at BIOPARC Valencia had the opportunity to release about twenty European pond turtles back into the wild. These turtles completed an extensive breeding process at both the Valencia facilities and those of the Acuario de Gijón.
This initiative is part of the conservation program for this endangered native species. The program, driven by the BIOPARC Foundation and the Conselleria de Medio Ambiente of the Generalitat Valenciana, combines several strategies: specialized care for the turtles, management of invasive exotic species, and public awareness campaigns on responsible pet ownership and biodiversity protection.
Each turtle reintroduced into its natural environment helps strengthen native populations, highlighting the importance of adopting a comprehensive and scientific approach to biodiversity preservation.
