The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility, Francisco Iniesta, has announced the start of European Mobility Week, an initiative by the European Commission that Villena is supporting. During this week, an online communication campaign will be conducted with tips to reduce motor vehicle use, promoting more sustainable alternatives for short or urban trips.
Iniesta also recalled the coincidence of this week with the reactivation of Safe School Environments. These areas, requiring the commitment of the entire educational community, create car-free zones and safer access for schoolchildren to their educational centers.
Safe School Environments are activated 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the start or end of the school day, a period during which vehicle access to the vicinity of the centers is restricted. This measure aims to create safer entry and exit environments for students and raise awareness about the need to use alternatives to cars.
To culminate the week, Villena will celebrate Car-Free Day on Sunday, October 4th, a fun and awareness-raising event that will include the participation of entities and groups related to urban mobility.
