The meeting, organized by the Mancomunidad del Alto Palancia and the Pacto por el Empleo y el Desarrollo Local, served to analyze preventive measures and share regeneration experiences following major fires such as those in Bejís and Fuente la Reina. The initiative highlights the need to protect forests, particularly relevant in a region still remembering the impact of the 2022 fire.
Staff from the public company Vaersa presented prevention measures and the importance of individual and collective responsibility regarding fire risk. Participating environmental organizations, such as Öriwa and Dessert Leaves, showcased projects developed on fire-affected land, exploring the possibility of applying these initiatives in other areas of the province of Castellón.
The main objective of the conference is to identify useful actions for future forest recovery and management projects. The Mancomunidad is working with Vaersa to disseminate knowledge and tools among the population of the region's 28 municipalities, considering forest protection a strategic element for environmental and local development.
One of the issues discussed was the creation of forest volunteer groups, a method aimed at involving citizens in territory prevention and protection tasks. Furthermore, the experience of existing active associations is being leveraged to develop new initiatives, including supramunicipal biomass management, coordinating actions among several small municipalities to enhance operational capacity.
