The municipalities of Begís and Torás, in the Alto Palancia region, will request the declaration of an affected area for civil protection emergency following the intense floods experienced on Saturday afternoon.

The water spouts, accompanied by hail, caused numerous damages to road infrastructure, municipal buildings, and homes. Almond and olive groves have also suffered severe harm, with the total loss of fruit from the trees in the case of the almond harvest, which was already underway.
The mayor of Begís, María José Madrid, and the mayor of Torás, Carlos del Río, have detailed the damage caused by the torrential rain that fell for just over an hour on Saturday afternoon. The runoff swept away rural roads, terraces, walls, and access to hamlets. The sewage system became blocked, worsening the water accumulation in the streets, and municipal buildings, warehouses, garages, and the church of Torás were flooded, with water reaching thirty centimeters in the sacristy.
Begís, with about four hundred inhabitants, is gradually returning to normal and compiling a list of damages. However, the magnitude of the damage exceeds the municipality's operational capacity. The mayor highlighted the need for external assistance to assess and repair the damages, as they lack sufficient technicians and personnel for this task.
In Torás, with 271 inhabitants, the damages are also considerable. Windows were broken and water entered the town hall, and the church and municipal warehouse were affected, where the water reached sixty centimeters. The mayor confirmed that the president of the Provincial Council of Castellón, Marta Barrachina, has already been in contact to express support and announce financial aid for reconstruction.
The storm was very localized, with extreme intensity in Begís and Torás, while just a few kilometers away, in Teresa, there was minimal rain. The mayor of Torás recalled the coincidence of this natural tragedy with the severe fire in the Alto Palancia that affected the municipality four years prior, on August 17, 2022.
