The project includes the installation of eight electric bicycles, a self-service station, and eight smart locks. A digital management platform and a mobile application will also be provided. The contract is for a period of three years.
The mayor of Montanejos, Miguel Sandalinas, emphasized the goal of giving "those who live in Montanejos and those who visit us more options to get around and enjoy the surroundings," promoting healthier mobility and reducing the environmental impact of tourist travel.
The addition of electric assistance will make cycling easier in a hilly area, expanding the possibilities for routes without relying on private vehicles. The initiative, named Montanejos Smart: Intermodal Mobility System, is part of Montanejos' designation as a tourist excellence municipality and is funded by the Generalitat's Innovative Territories program.
Sandalinas added that "caring for our environment also means offering services that allow us to explore it differently," and that this action is a concrete step to make cycling a more accessible option and enhance Montanejos' offering as a nature destination.
This new equipment complements the town's commitment to cycle tourism, through resources like the BTT Alto Mijares Center and initiatives such as the recent CicloFest.
