The Alcoy City Council has organized a workshop focused on original historical documentation from the modernist movement, which will take place on September 9th at 7:00 PM in the Municipal Archive. The activity, led by the archive's director, Josep Lluís Santonja, has a limited capacity of fifteen people to ensure the preservation of materials.
The workshop will offer a historical introduction to the significance of modernism in Alcoy, highlighting its later arrival compared to other places, as evidenced by the inauguration of the modernist kiosk in 1910. Attendees will be able to analyze the current's influence on typography and Alcoy's printing houses, with examples of works by Company, Llorens, Teobaldo Jordá, and La Porta, as well as local press. The impact on industry will also be addressed, featuring commercial catalogs like that of Rodes, and on architecture, showcasing facade designs for shops from over three hundred projects preserved by architects such as Vicente Pascual or Timoteo Briet.
The Councilor for Tourism, Lorena Zamorano, has positively assessed this initiative, stating that "bringing our documentary heritage closer to citizens allows us to discover our roots and the splendor of that era firsthand, while also offering an educational cultural proposal that directly benefits residents and visitors alike".
