This year's Alcoy Modernist Fair program will include novelties, such as the recreation of the Canalejas bridge and the staging of this one-act lyrical sainete. The performance, by the Agrupación Lírica El Trabajo, will take place in La Glorieta park, a space repurposed for fair activities. Admission will be free.
The Councilor for Tourism, Lorena Zamorano, highlighted the importance of this cultural initiative, stating, "Recovering these works and bringing them to the streets allows all residents to enjoy our history directly and experientially, generating a very beneficial social and coexistence impact for the city".
For their part, the president of the Agrupación Lírica El Trabajo, Javier Pérez, noted that the fair calls for outdoor activities, which is why they decided to present this spectacle in the open air. He added that performing this unreleased zarzuela on the same date, February 26th, as its 1912 premiere in Madrid is a "magnificent opportunity".
The work, which was only performed once, will feature musical direction by Vicente Sanoguera and adaptation of the original poster by Sergio Fernández. Stage director Raúl Roldán described the play as "very fun and agile," with solo performances by soprano Gema Soler and tenor Óscar García, accompanied by a large cast of actors and actresses and the entity's choir.
“"The show is designed as a small lyrical gem that seeks audience engagement with moments of humor and closeness, creating a unique historical atmosphere in La Glorieta."
Before the main performance, attendees can enjoy several short pieces as part of the fair's program, which will take place at various locations throughout the municipality.
