The Generalitat Valenciana has established level 3 pre-emergency due to extreme fire risk throughout the autonomous territory for Wednesday, August 12th, 2026. This situation implies a prohibition on people's transit through paths and cross-country in forest areas, in addition to other preventive measures such as the suspension of any type of authorization for fire use in forest zones and the halting of work that may generate sparks.
The Municipal Operational Coordination Center (CECOPAL) of Alcoy met yesterday, chaired by the mayor, Toni Francés, to decide to follow the regional instructions. It is recommended to find alternative locations within the city for eclipse observation, such as the Catagallet area, and to use specialized applications.
The council has contacted Astroalcoy, the Alcoy Astronomical Association, to inform them about the established safety measures. The entity has appreciated the information and commits to transmitting it to its members.
The Councilor for Emergencies, Raül Llopis, has positively valued the prevention measures, highlighting the priority of ensuring citizen safety and preserving the natural environment.
As a general recommendation, the public is asked to plan their observation, avoid unnecessary travel, use only approved glasses, maintain proper hydration, protect themselves from the heat, park only in authorized areas, and follow the instructions of security personnel.
