The Urban Planning department of the Alcoy City Council handled a significant workload during the first half of the year, issuing permits and processing responsible declarations. The first quarter saw 223 applications, while the second quarter resolved 232 cases. This momentum confirms the revitalization of the construction sector in the city, which closed 2025 with 879 resolved applications. This boom has led to a tripling of revenue from ICIO (Tax on Constructions, Installations, and Works) in the last year compared to five years ago.
Among the most relevant projects this year is the approval for the construction of a multi-family building with 54 homes on Oliver street. Additionally, the urban planning area has authorized the change of use from commercial premises to housing in areas such as Centenari square, El Camí street, Pintor Cabrera street, and D'Elx avenue. Efforts towards accessibility have resulted in approvals for elevator installations in buildings on Onil street, País Valencià avenue, and Dels Clots street. The implementation of renewable energy continues with solar photovoltaic installations in private homes and large-scale facilities like the José Arnauda school and the El Teix Children's Reception Center.
“"We must value the dynamism and activity that the urban fabric is currently experiencing in the city, and in this regard, we work from the urban planning department to facilitate all those procedures that allow citizens to adapt their homes to new needs, thus fostering a type of urbanism that generates more habitable, fully accessible, and efficient spaces."
The Councilor for Urban Planning, Vanessa Moltó, positively assessed the dynamism of the local urban fabric, highlighting the department's work in facilitating procedures that allow citizens to adapt their homes to new needs, promoting more habitable, accessible, and efficient urbanism.
